Part 2 of 7 of the period drama. Mrs Vizzard is astonished to discover that her new lodger Mr Squales is the clairvoyant Professor Corlito. But she is outraged when she learns that Connie Coke is in jail and decides to take the chance to evict her from her flat - which proves easier said than done. Doris Josser is still determined to move into a flat of her own, despite her mother's objections, so pal Doreen Smyth decides to speak on her behalf at a meeting at Jossers flat that develops into a wider audience than they intended. This is partly due to Percy, who has become attracted to Doris after meeting her at the cinema, despite having a girlfriend in Edith Watson, who works there. But after learning that Edith is married from Jack Rufus, and disgruntled at Jack for cutting the money for the resprays, Percy decides to break from both and go it alone. But his attempt to go into the car theft business goes tragically wrong...
Starring Derek Farr, Julia McCarthy, Patricia Hayes, Betty Alberge, Terence Budd, Madge Ryan, Arnold Peters, Fiona Gray, Tony Aitken, John Sharp, Mark Eden, William Morgan Sheppard, Hilda Fenemore, Margaret De Courtenay and Dawn Perllman. A rare TV series that hasn't been repeated since 1977, this is an adaptation of the 1938 Norman Collins novel and was itself adapted into a 1948 film with Alastair Sim. Peter Jeffrey takes on the Sim role as the dodgy clairvoyant who may actually have the powers and he's not bad considering who he has to follow. But this episode follows what dominated the film version, as Percy Boon's fantasy of being a hit with the ladies and as a go it alone criminal go badly wrong. By the way, if you are wondering where you may of seen the actor who plays Percy and the landlady Mrs Vizzard before, it's probably from the TV series A Horseman Riding By, which was broadcast a year after this in 1978.
(Note: Due to internet trouble earlier today I will attempt to upload the rest of these episodes later tonight. Until then, enjoy this rare TV series for Xmas).
