After graduation, 19 year old Goran (Folke Sundquist) goes to spend the summer working on his Uncle Anders' (Edvin Adolphson) farm, where he meets, and falls in love with 17 year old local girl Kerstin (Ulla Jacobsson). But their budding romance is condemned by the both the local clergy (John Elfström), and Kerstin's parents.
Based on the 1949 novel Sommardansen by Per Olof Ekström.
It was the first Swedish film to win the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival. It was nominated for the Palme d'Or ,and won the award for Best Music at the 1952 Cannes Film Festival.
