The Ruling Voice 1931. Loretta Young, Walter Huston, David Manners, Doris Kenyon, Nat Pendleton, John Halliday
Jack Bannister (Walter Huston) runs a racketeering group that forces grocers to pay protection money. Unaware of the source of her father's wealth, which has paid for her education abroad, Gloria Bannister (Loretta Young) returns home to announce her engagement to a socially prominent young man. Hoping she will be accepted by her fiancé's family, Gloria asks Jack about his business -- and he tells her the truth, forcing her to choose between him and a growing resistance against the racketeers.
