Is mysterious 'particle X' the key to the universe’s evolution? Experts say unknown 'destroyer' could explain why vast quantities of chemicals went missing
Soon after the universe was born, an unknown particle may have gone about breaking apart atoms and destroying significant quantities of lithium before mysteriously disappearing.
The newly proposed ‘particle X’ could explain why the observed amounts of lithium in the early universe are roughly three times smaller than they’re expected to be, according to a team of researchers from Canada and Austria.
Its predicted mass suggests the particle may also have acted as a mediator between normal matter and dark matter.
