Both a masterful abbey and an impregnable fortress, this well-known silhouette built on a massive block of granite attracts nearly 3 million visitors every year. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is known around the world, yet it is still far from having revealed all its secrets. So today, using state-of-the-art technology, experts can explore the mysteries hidden in its stones and find evidence that was invisible to the human eye. By stripping each layer of its breathtaking architecture and scrutinizing the Mount from the infinitely far to the infinitely close, present day specialists dissect the work of builders of the past. They are on a mission to fill in the gaps of Mont Saint Michel’s fascinating history.
