This is the moment a prolific sex offender who stole an innocent man’s identity was arrested after almost three decades on the run.
Now 80-year-old Richard Burrows has been convicted of 97 offences against 24 young boys across the UK, including a range of sex offences and possession of indecent images of children.
He was found guilty of 54 offences at Chester Crown Court on Monday, March 17. He had already pleaded guilty to 43 offences at an earlier hearing - including possession of false identity documents with intent.
Between 1968 and 1995 Burrows systematically abused 24 young boys across the Cheshire, West Midlands and West Mercia areas.
Burrows was held at Heathrow Airport after flying into the country. He had fled the UK in the wake of being arrested and charged back in 1997 - and assumed the identity of a terminally ill man to obtain a 'genuine' passport.
Burrows, of HMP Altcourse, was remanded into custody, and will be sentenced on Monday, April 7.
