When Prophet Musa made zakat (charity) obligatory for the Israelites, Qarun resisted, accusing Musa of seeking control over their wealth. In his envy, Qarun plotted against Musa by attempting to discredit him with false accusations. However, his plans backfired, exposing his deceit and further sealing his fate.
According to the Quranic story, Qarun’s arrogance and corruption led to his divine punishment. Allah caused the earth to swallow Qarun, his home, and his treasures, leaving behind a chilling lesson for all. Those who had once envied his wealth came to understand that worldly possessions are fleeting, and true success lies in righteousness and humility.
Interestingly, part of Qarun’s legendary treasure was discovered thousands of years later in Turkey. In 1968, villagers unearthed a fraction of his wealth, including priceless jewels, in the İzmir-Ushak region.
